Check out the Trees
Read a book about trees as a starter to get your child's interest.
After you have read the story, talk about the story.
- Ask questions to find out what information your children already know. Ask if they can identify the animals that live in trees.
Children will probably know about birds, but you can push their imagination buttons a little further and talk about insects, squirrels and other critters that make the trees their habitat.
- Take a walk in your neighborhood to look at the trees.
Select a tree near your home to become your favorite tree.
- Take a picture of the tree to mark the season.
- When you get back home, talk about the tree and ask questions.
See if they noticed any peculiarities about the tree.
- Make a schedule to visit the tree.
- Chart out the children's observations.
*Then when their ready, let them plant their own tree and nuture it.
